Today we leave the woodlands of the East and enter into the Great Plains as we begin our trek across Oklahoma. Basically we have followed the route of the Trail of Tears as we left the home of the Cherokees in the Georgia/North Carolina area will now be passing through their transplanted homeland in Oklahoma.

Before we get to Oklahoma we will make a stop in Van Buren, AR. Sharon heard there is a quilt store in Van Buren. Town looks interesting but the shop we thought might be the quilt shop was not the right store.

As we are leaving town we pass the courthouse complex and spy an old log house. This looked like something needing investigation. It turns out to be an old one room schoolhouse. Civil War General Albert Pike taught school in it.
Countinuing west from Van Buren we pass through Ft Smith, Arkansas and on into Oklahoma.

In Sallisaw we stop for a picnic lunch at a city road side park. The road site park turns out to be a self-guided museum. It consisted of a series of old buildings that had been moved in. Apparently 14 different flags have flown over the area.

We continue our trek west passing through Muskogee and zipping through Tulsa on the freeway. West of Tulsa we continue on to Enid, Oklahoma. It is darker than we would like and we have difficulty finding the RV park. We grab dinner at Braum's
and bed down for the night - tomorrow the panhandle.
